Sustainability
It’s not just a consideration, it’s a commitment built into every part of our process.
Being Honest with you, we exist for you, which begins with designing for longevity and using responsibly sourced materials.
Each piece is built to last, easy to repair, and simple to recycle.
With replaceable parts, a 10-year warranty, and take-back schemes in development, we’re committed to circular design and lasting sustainability.
The following information provides further insight into how we incorporate sustainability into every aspect of our work.
Environment
We’re committed to creating furniture that supports healthy, toxin-free interiors. That means carefully selecting materials and finishes that are low in VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and meet recognised indoor air quality standards. Things to consider are;
Adhesives: We use zero-formaldehyde adhesives that exceed the requirements of the E1 Emissions Standard achieving significantly lower emission levels.
Lacquers: All our finishes are water-based lacquers, specifically developed for low VOC emissions, helping to maintain healthier indoor environments.
Foams: Where possible, we use recycled foam and offer options that comply with CDPH v1.2 and ANSI/BIFMA standards for safer, more sustainable upholstery.
We believe that good design should enhance well-being, never compromise it.
Sourcing & Supply Chain
All of our products are thoughtfully designed and developed in our studio and workshop in York, UK.
Made-to-order pieces are crafted in-house, while batch production is carried out in collaboration with a trusted network of manufacturers across the UK and Europe who share our commitment to quality and zero compromise.
We choose our partners not only for their expertise, but also for their proximity to the raw material source, helping to reduce transport emissions, minimise our carbon footprint, and support local processing adding value to the region the materials are grown.
FSC Certification
All of the wood & cardboard sourced for the production of our furniture and packaging is FSC™ certified.
This means the products an packaging are made from wood sourced from well-managed FSC™-certified forests, recycled materials, and other controlled sources.
Certified products ensure that Honest’s wooden furniture is produced in a socially, economically, and environmentally responsible way.
Sustainable Packaging
We take pride in our packaging, designing it carefully to protect each product while keeping waste to a minimum. We always use recyclable materials and where possible, recycled materials, including cardboard and paper-based padding.
We actively minimise plastic use, and when it’s necessary, we opt for recyclable film wraps. It’s all part of our commitment to thoughtful, sustainable design from start to finish.
Looking Forward
We recognise that as cringy as it sounds, sustainability 'is a journey'… As we grow, we remain committed to transparency, continuous improvement, and working with partners and clients who share our values. Whether it’s through material innovation, certification compliance, or responsible design - Honest will always aim to be part of the solution. Stay real.
